Every permit starts somewhere.
Hill Skills Day is designed for volunteers who want to build their confidence in the hills and understand what’s involved in gaining a Hill Walking Permit.
Throughout the day you’ll learn about route planning, maps, compass skills, weather, kit and communication, while gaining practical experience in a supportive Scouting environment. Whether you’re completely new to hill walking or looking to refresh your skills, you’ll leave with a better understanding of the next steps on your hill walking journey.
The course is based on the principles of the Mountaineering Ireland Hill Skills programme and has been adapted for Scouts. It’s a great opportunity to learn, ask questions and take the first steps towards helping young people discover what’s over the next hill.
