Transforming the volunteer journey and the way we volunteer…
As part of delivering the national skills for life strategy, Scouts UK is transforming the volunteering experience and we want to make sure our volunteers feel valued for everything that they do and most of all, we want them to enjoy themselves.
To do this, lots of different national teams have been fundamentally reviewing our whole volunteer journey. These teams are working closely with volunteers on the ground (and those not yet involved), to design processes that provide a great experience and makes the best use of digital technology.
We have four areas of change…
- Warmer Welcome: We’re moving from appointment panel meetings to welcome conversations that will take place in your group.
- Learning: We’re moving from training to learning and development. There’s tailored learning for everyone!
- Our Volunteer Culture: We are moving to teams-based volunteering and new governance frameworks.
- Digital First, Not Digital Only: We’re moving to a new digital membership system, with digital tools for recruitment, welcoming, learning and adult membership management.
To make this a success, we need your support to ensure that we get this right for all areas of Scouting in Northern Ireland. Back in 2022, a cohort from Northern Ireland came back from BaseCamp with the knowledge that Scouts UK were officially commencing their new transformation journey that would include the four key changes noted above. Since this moment, Counties within Northern Ireland have been working with Districts to support them on onboarding the different aspects of the overall project and we have come so far already!
