Celebrating Our Beaver Scout’s Inspirational Fundraising Efforts: Lewis Rennie
Lewis Rennie Honoured with Commissioner’s Commendation
In a heartwarming ceremony, young Lewis Rennie from the 1st Carnfunnock Scout Group’s Beaver Colony was awarded a Commissioner’s Commendation for his outstanding dedication. The commendation was presented by Stephen Bell, District Lead Volunteer for South East Antrim, who praised Lewis for his remarkable achievements and resilience.
Lewis, a remarkable six-year-old from Larne, has made a significant impact by raising over £16,000 for children with cancer through his incredible fundraising journey! He embarked on a mission to walk 100 miles last summer in memory of his younger brother Callum, who sadly passed away in May 2022. Throughout his challenge, Lewis inspired local athletes and public figures to join him, walking through forests, beaches, and mountains to support his cause. His efforts resulted in a generous donation to the Big C Foundation, a charity that has since used the funds to provide wheelchairs, play therapy equipment, and trips to Lapland for children battling cancer.
The Big C Foundation, founded in memory of Callum Rennie, has raised nearly £75,000 to date, supporting families and children with cancer across Northern Ireland. Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Alderman Noel Williams, praised Lewis’ dedication, stating,
“It was truly inspiring to meet Lewis and his wonderful family. The vital funds he raised are sure to help other families affected by cancer. His hard work, dedication, and kind spirit are thoroughly well-deserved.”
Stephen Bell, District Lead Volunteer for South East Antrim, said,
“Lewis embodies the true spirit of Scouting. His commitment, bravery, and compassion are an inspiration to us all. We are proud to recognise his efforts with this commendation.”
Lewis’ story resonates deeply with the Scouting spirit, highlighting the power of community, resilience, and care for others. We are incredibly proud of his achievements. Congratulations, Lewis!
