A Century of Scouting in East Belfast
On Sunday March 19, East Belfast District marked a historic milestone – 100 years of Scouting!
The celebration began with a parade from Stormont Estate to Campbell College, where a special service was held to honour a century of Scouting in the area.
The parade was led by Campbell College Pipes, Drums and Bugles, accompanied by the 43rd Dundonald Boys Brigade Company Band, filling the streets with music and excitement. What made this event even more special was the presence of the youngest members of Scouting, our Squirrels, who paraded for the first time ever in the District.
East Belfast saw a fantastic turnout, with leaders and Scouts from all sections participating in the parade and proudly showcasing the values of Scouting. The local community and parents came out in full support, with many lining the streets to watch!
Special guests included Gavin Robinson, Member of Parliament for East Belfast and Leader of the DUP, who expressed his honour in attending the event. Gavin was joined by his wife Lindsay and their son Reuben. Gavin shared his personal connection to the movement, having been part of the 33rd Stormont, and said, “Scouting equips young people with incredible life lessons and values.”
The service at Campbell College, was a lively and meaningful celebration of the past, present, and future of Scouting in East Belfast.
A huge thank you to Gareth McAuley, District Leader Volunteer for East, and all the volunteers who helped bring this memorable event to life. The day was truly a reflection of how Scouting continues to inspire and shape the lives of young people in East Belfast, and beyond.
Here’s to another 100 years!
