1st Hillsborough Scouts Spread Christmas Cheer for Charity
1st Hillsborough Scouts has shown the true meaning of Christmas by hosting a fundraiser for two local charities – Macmillan Cancer Support and RNLI. The group created and sold wooden Christmas trees to raise funds in memory of someone special to the community.
With the support of over 60 local volunteers, businesses, and Scouts, the event has already raised around £500, with more expected in the coming weeks. Local businesses generously donated materials, helping the Scouts bring their ideas to life.
Karen Coulter, a leader from 1st Hillsborough, said: “What we all were so encouraged by was not just the support from the community to raise the money, but it was watching all the kids, younger and older alike, getting stuck in and feeling the immense pride in what they accomplished. One parent in particular came up to me raving about how her son had been helping sand the trees and hadn’t stopped talking about it all week. It really was brilliant to watch them learn new life skills and have fun with friends.”
A charity night will be held in January or February to present the donations to the chosen charities. This initiative highlights our Scouts commitment to giving back and making a difference in the community.
Well done, 1st Hillsborough – we are incredibly proud of your efforts, and a special thank you to Scott Robinson for attending and offering his support!
