Scouts NI Repair Café

June 6 @ 10:30 am - 1:00 pm

Fix it. Reuse it. Give it a go!

For: Cubs, Scouts and Explorers.

We’re teaming up with local Repair Cafés and Tools for Solidarity to run a Repair Café event just for Scout groups.

This interactive session will help young people give things a second life, learn practical repair skills and explore how small actions can make a big difference for our planet.

Through games, creativity and learning by doing, participants will discover why textile waste matters and, more importantly, what they can do about it.

What’s happening?

Young people will rotate around practical activity stations led by experienced repair volunteers, including:

  • Mending basics – sewing on buttons, fixing rips and learning simple stitches
  • Creative reuse – thinking beyond worn‑out clothes and designing denim patches
  • Looking after our gear – how to care for coats, bags, tents and uniforms so they last longer
  • Visible mending – trying colourful techniques like darning or sashiko

We’ll kick things off with a lively group game about fast fashion and finish by sharing ideas for action at home, in Scout groups and in the community, including links to relevant badges and next steps.

Young people will leave with new skills, materials to take home, and ideas they can use straight away.
