Scouts take over Armagh for Monopoly Run

Date: 12th Jun 2026 Author: Phoebe McDowell

Seventeen teams of Scouts and Explorers from across Northern Ireland came together in Armagh this past weekend for the Monopoly Run.

Starting under grey skies and a rainy morning, spirits stayed high as young people got stuck into the challenge. And as the weather brightened, so did the atmosphere. Teams raced across the city, cracking clues, solving riddles and discovering everything Armagh has to offer.

The event brought young people together from all over the province, showing exactly what Scouts is all about – teamwork, trying new things and finding your place alongside others. It’s moments like this that help build confidence, resilience and friendships that last, giving young people real skills for life.

Split across five boards, teams pushed themselves every step of the way. Board winners on the day were:

  • 1st Keady
  • 109th Belfast
  • Hydra Explorers
  • 1st Rathfriland

Taking the overall win after an impressive performance were 4th Portadown, who topped the leaderboard in a closely fought contest!

But while there were winners on the scoreboard, the real success of the day was the energy, laughter and sense of belonging shared by everyone taking part. Across every checkpoint and challenge, young people were stepping up, working together and giving it a go.

Events like the Monopoly Run bring the movement to life in local communities – creating spaces where young people feel welcome, supported and able to be themselves. They highlight the power of coming together, building stronger connections and making great memories along the way.

With lots of laughs, teamwork and friendly competition, it was a great day for Scouts coming together from across Northern Ireland.

A huge thank you goes to Trevor Hendren (NI Scout Team Lead) for organising such a successful event, along with all the volunteers who made the day possible.
