Scouts Put Their Ideas to the Test

Date: 26th Mar 2026 Author: Phoebe McDowell

This year’s Resonate Space Challenge, delivered by Scouts NI in partnership with Resonate Testing and Scouting Ireland, has come to a close – and what a day it was.

The challenge invited young people to imagine and build their own satellite structures, exploring new ideas and trying things out along the way. This year, the entries came from 87th Dublin, and their teams threw themselves into the project with energy and creativity.

Final testing took place at Resonate Testing’s facility, where each model faced the same forces a real satellite experiences during launch. It was a rare chance for young people to see their ideas tested in a real engineering environment.

A huge thank‑you to Ian Stewart from Resonate Testing for making this partnership possible, and to Trevor Hendren, our Scout Team Lead, for supporting the project and helping bring it all together.

Involvement contributed towards the Space Activity Badge, while Scouting Ireland members linked their work with the Air Activities Adventure Skill and Skills Special Interest Badge.

The challenge has now wrapped up, but the confidence, teamwork and curiosity it sparked will last much longer. Together, we helped young people try something new, think big and build skills for life.
