Young Writer Award – 117th Islamic Scout Group

Date: 31st Oct 2025 Author: Phoebe McDowell

We’re celebrating an amazing achievement from one of our Scouts at 117th Islamic Scout Group!

Amira Rafifa Effendi (14) has been recognised in the Young Writers Annual Showcase 2024 for her creative story inspired by her first camp at Lagan Valley in 2023. Her story was chosen to be published in the Annual Showcase anthology – a national collection that celebrates young writing talent from across the UK.

The anthology is described as “a celebration of words, packed full of young writing talent in every form you can think of – from stories and poems to articles and memoirs.” Amira’s story shines with humour, reflection and heart, capturing the excitement of her first camping experience and the spirit of teamwork that makes Scouting so special.

Through writing, Amira showed key skills for life – confidence, creativity, teamwork and communication – proving that the adventures Scouts experience can inspire success far beyond the campsite.

Huge congratulations to Amira for this brilliant achievement! You’ve shown that every Scout has a story to tell, and we can’t wait to see what you write next.
