St George’s Funday Celebration

Date: 7th May 2025 Author: Phoebe McDowell

Wallace Park was buzzing with excitement as Lisburn District Scouts hosted their St George’s Funday, bringing together hundreds of young people, leaders, and members of the local community for a brilliant day of celebration and connection.

The day kicked off with a lively parade from Lisburn city centre to Wallace Park, setting the tone for a full day of outdoor fun. With around 500 young people and 100 leaders in attendance, all 10 Lisburn Scout Groups came out in full force, showing exactly what Scouting is all about.

From inflatable assault courses to pioneering challenges, carnival games, peel-off tattoos, and plenty of free ice cream, there was something for everyone. The Funday format, a new approach to celebrating St George’s Day in the district, proved a huge success, making Scouting visible, inclusive, and appealing to the wider community.

The impact? Around 60 new young people have signed up to join Scouts in Lisburn District since the event. It’s a fantastic example of how a well-run, engaging event can inspire new adventures for local families.

It was also brilliant to welcome Scouting Ireland to the event, reinforcing strong cross-border friendships and shared values.

Well done to everyone involved for making this event one to remember – and here’s to many more fundays in the future!
