Scouts NI Super Saturday
A Celebration of Youth, Challenge, and Achievement
Last Saturday, 29 March 2025, was a landmark day for us, packed with exciting events that showcased the energy, enthusiasm, and achievements of young people across the region.
From thought-provoking discussions at the Belfast UK Youth Forum to fierce competition at the Cub Quiz Final, and the unveiling of a brand-new Challenge Course at Crawfordsburn Activity Centre, it was a day to remember.
To top it all off, we were honoured to welcome UK Chief Scout Dwayne Fields, whose visit made the day even more special.
Young people leading the way at the UK Youth Forum
The third UK Youth Forum took place at the historic Stormont Parliament Buildings, with young people at the heart of discussions about the future of Scouting. Led by our Youth Lead, Kayleigh Finlay, this event provided a platform for 84 delegates, the majority aged 10-25, to #SpeakUpSparkChange and shape the next Scouts UK strategy.
The event was supported by the Minister of Education, Paul Givan, who welcomed attendees and was presented with a Scouts NI scarf in recognition of his commitment to uniformed youth!
We were also privileged to hear from UK Chief Scout, Dwayne Fields, who shared his inspiring journey and the importance of belonging in Scouting. His presence brought fresh energy and enthusiasm, and he engaged directly with young people, encouraging them to use their voices to make a difference.
Scouts NI Chief Volunteer, Stephen Bell, alongside the NI Youth Team, ensured that young people from across our Districts were represented. The UK Youth Forum Core Team and a fantastic group of teal-shirted volunteers worked tirelessly to create a safe, welcoming space where young people could lead conversations and influence real change.
Cubs put their knowledge to the test at the Cub Quiz
Meanwhile, at Crawfordsburn Activity Centre, Cub Packs from across Northern Ireland came together for the NI Cub Quiz Final.
Teams battled it out in a fun and competitive test of knowledge, teamwork, and problem-solving skills!
Our Winners:
- 1st Place: 4th Belfast Girls
- 2nd Place: 3rd Newtownards
- 3rd Place: 5th Ballymena
This event was organised by the NI Cub Team, who ensured everything ran smoothly.
Scouts NI Chief Volunteer, Stephen Bell, attended the event, commenting: “It was a great day, and the Cubs had a ball. Thank you to Paul and the team for facilitating; it is very much appreciated by all.”
Dwayne Fields was also there to present the awards, making the occasion even more exciting for the young people.
Unveiling Stevie’s Challenge Course
The newest addition to Crawfordsburn Activity Centre was officially unveiled on Super Saturday – the brand-new Stevie’s Challenge Course. Named in memory of ‘Stevie‘ Robert Stevenson from 1st Cookstown, this course stands as a tribute to his dedication to Scouting.
UK Chief Scout, Dwayne Fields, and Chief Volunteer, Stephen Bell, were joined by 1st Cookstown Scout Group for the official unveiling, with the group also presenting a commemorative plaque to mark the occasion.
The new challenge course promises to be an exciting and adventurous addition for all young people visiting Crawfordsburn.
A special visit from UK Chief Scout Dwayne Fields
A highlight of Scouts NI Super Saturday was the incredible visit from UK Chief Scout, Dwayne Fields. Dwayne’s enthusiasm, positivity, and commitment to empowering young people shone throughout the day. From engaging with young leaders at Stormont, to celebrating Cubs’ achievements at the Quiz Final, and unveiling Stevie’s Challenge Course, his presence was truly inspiring to us all!
His visit reaffirmed the power that Scouting holds in shaping young lives, encouraging adventure, and fostering leadership.
From the halls of Stormont to the challenge course at Crawfordsburn, Saturday was a celebration of everything we stand for: youth-led experiences, outdoor adventure, and #SkillsForLife.
A huge thank you to everyone who made the day possible.
