Northern Regional College Causeway recently welcomed young people from Scouts NI to an exciting taster session at its Causeway Campus in Coleraine. The new partnership gave Scouts aged 10-18 the chance to explore different career pathways and develop essential skills for life.

The interactive sessions covered a variety of subjects, including Construction, Health and Social Care, Hair and Beauty, Creative Arts (media and performing arts), Sport, Childcare, Applied Science, and Business and Computing. Through hands-on activities, young people gained valuable insights into future education and career opportunities.

Helen Hampsey, Assistant Curriculum Director at NRC, said:
“We are delighted to have collaborated with Scouts NI to deliver these taster sessions. This partnership allows us to showcase our diverse course offerings while inspiring young people to consider their next steps in education and employment.”

Adam Meikle, Scouts NI Regional Lead Volunteer for West, added:
“For Scouts NI, this event was an invaluable experience, helping young people develop key skills, explore career opportunities, and work towards accredited qualifications. The feedback from participants has been fantastic, highlighting how engaging and practical the sessions were.”

This is the first initiative between NRC and Scouts NI, and following its success, plans are already in place to expand the programme! Future taster sessions will be introduced at additional campuses, with discussions underway to explore short-term accredited courses and leadership development opportunities.

By fostering strong links between education providers and youth organisations, this collaboration ensures that young people across Northern Ireland have access to the skills, knowledge, and opportunities they need to thrive!
