Making sure your learning is up to date
Updated guidance: Please click here
We want to say a big thank you to all our volunteers who have accessed their learning account via the Membership System. Similarly to the old processes with Compass, we have some learning deadlines coming up which will affect your membership and it’s important you complete any outstanding learning before they expire.
Volunteers who were members prior to the Go-Live of the Membership System in November 2024
All volunteers, who were members prior to the launch of the Membership System in November, are required to update their Safety learning by 14 July 2025. To ensure that we have a proactive approach, we really want to ensure that this deadline is met, so we will be setting an internal deadline of Friday 20 June 2025 as our deadline.
If you have not completed the new Safety learning, please do so as soon as possible. It takes around 45 – 60 minutes to complete and can be done in bite sized chunks, so you don’t need to do it all in one go.
In line with our ‘Teams’ approach to Scouting Growing Roots learning has replaced Getting Started. The Growing Roots learning modules are different to Getting Started and some volunteers who were members prior to change over in November will be required to do some additional learning.
The additional learning for those working with young people may include Creating Inclusion and Creating a Great Programme. If you manage other volunteers i.e. Lead Volunteer (Group/District/County) or a Team Lead at District or Northern Ireland Level, you may be required to complete Leading Scout Volunteers and lastly, those who are a Trustee in Scouts at Group, District or Northern Ireland level may be required to complete Being a Scout Trustee.
To find out if you are required to complete any learning modules, you will need to log into your learning account via the Membership System. Once you have accessed the portal, this will show any elements of learning which need to be completed and a date by which they must be completed.
*Please note that we are aware of the First Response date not being replicated on the Membership System. If there is an error with First Response data, please contact the digitalphase@scoutsni.org for further support.*
New volunteers who have joined since the launch of the new membership system
Volunteers who have become members since the launch of the membership system have 30 days from their date of joining to complete both Safety and Safeguarding learning modules.
New volunteers will also have to complete other Growing Roots modules within 6 months of becoming members. Growing Roots includes Creating Inclusion, Data Protection for Scouts and Who we are and What We Do. If you are working with young people, you may also have to complete Delivering a Great Programme.
Team leads within the District (i.e. 14-24 Lead, Volunteering Development Team Lead and Support Team Lead) or NI will also be required to complete Leading Scout Volunteers. Trustees will be required to complete Being a Trustee in Scouts.
To find out which learning modules you require to complete, please log into your learning account as soon as possible or contact us for more information at digitalphase@scoutsni.org.
