Hydra and Inferno Explorers Adventure!
“This summer Hydra Explorer Scouts invited Inferno Explorer Scouts from Mid Sussex to spend a week exploring Northern Ireland. This only happened as the two leaders, Peter Wilson and Tom Hylands worked together at the 2023 World Scout Jamboree, and during the final review in September, hatched a plan. Looking for something more local, a week of activities, local culture and friendships began. A true Jamboree legacy!
We used Crawfordsburn Activity Centre and accessed Bangor for the Museum, the Marina and ice creams, walking to and from on the coastal path. A throwing angels and tomahawks session was popular in the North Down Scout Centre before a Belfast Monopoly run to explore the city with Taskmaster challenges thrown in created by ourselves.
Cladagh Glen was the base for a couple days and Robin Ferguson looked after us, with their amazing Centre and canoeing on Lough Erne – Enniskillen Castle looks amazing from the water and Maurice Lee was the official photographer for the day! We also did a guided tour of the Marble Arch Caves, explored Enniskillen Castle and walked the Cladagh Glen Geo Park.
Our final venue was Castlerock Scouts hall and Paul and Stephanie Meikle looked after us – we had surfing lessons in Portrush, a visit to Curry’s (Barry’s really), the Giants Causeway, Carrick-a-rede rope bridge and the beaches at White rocks and Castlerock.
Many friendships made, miles driven, photos taken and memories created.”
