Commissioners Commendation
Reuben Davies, 1st Ballyclare Beavers, receives Commissioner’s Commendation!
Stephen Bell, District Lead Volunteer South East Antrim, was delighted to be able to present Reuben with his Commissioner’s Commendation Award for showing courage and care in difficult circumstances.
Ruben’s grandad took unwell over Christmas and ended up in A+E for five days and nights waiting for a bed. Reuben wouldn’t leave the hospital, so mum, dad and Reuben all stayed. Reuben was so good caring for his grandad but sadly he passed away. Then Ruben’s nanny passed away 6 days later.
Reuben has been a rock for his mum who is devastated at the loss of both parents in such a short space of time, really getting her through. Reuben’s parents were essentially their de facto carers, they travelled up and down to Londonderry twice a week and then mum, dad and Reuben were there every weekend. So, in the end it was a sudden loss and now a big void in his life.
Reuben was very attentive and helped the nurses at the hospital when his grandad was there. Photos were sent of him with surgical gloves on helping a nurse to check canula in the back of his grandad’s hands.
Reuben is a ray of sunshine and even when he was obviously hurting so much on the inside at the loss of his grandparents, he still attended Beavers, smiling and being his usual polite, well mannered and positive self!
Well done Reuben!
