Celebrating Long Service with Strangford Scout Active Support

Date: 16th Dec 2025 Author: Phoebe McDowell

The Strangford Scout Active Support Unit gathered on Friday 14 November for their annual Renewal of Promise service, held at Comber Non-Subscribing Presbyterian Church.

The service brought members together to reflect on their shared values, commitment to Scouting and the lasting impact of volunteers who have given many years of service as Scout leaders within their local communities. It was led by Revd. Ian Gilpin, District Chaplain, who guided the evening with warmth and reflection.

A key moment of the service was the Renewal of Promise, led by Philip Scott, Vice-President of Scouts NI. The Renewal of Promise is an important opportunity for adult members to reaffirm their commitment to the Scout values of integrity, respect, care, belief and cooperation.

During the service, Philip also presented an Award for Merit to Sean Hindsberg. This award recognises outstanding service and commitment to Scouting, and it was a proud moment for Sean, his family and fellow members of the Strangford Scout Active Support Unit.

Events like the Renewal of Promise highlight the vital role that Scout Active Support volunteers play behind the scenes. Many members have spent years as leaders before moving into Active Support roles, continuing to give their time, skills and experience to support Scouting across NI.
