Celebrating Achievement at Hillsborough Castle

Date: 5th Sep 2025 Author: Phoebe McDowell

Two Beaver leaders from 4th Belfast, Sam Neill and James Hughes, recently had the honour of attending the Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Award Celebration at Hillsborough Castle.

As part of the event, they were able to meet His Royal Highness, The Duke of Edinburgh, and share their journey of completing the award through Scouts within their church.

The Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is a remarkable achievement, requiring commitment, resilience, and dedication. For Sam and James, completing the award through Scouts provided them with opportunities to develop practical skills, serve their community, and grow as leaders.

Speaking about the experience, Sam said:
“It was a privilege to represent Scouts at the event and to speak with the Duke of Edinburgh about how we completed our award.”

We’re proud of Sam and James for their hard work and determination, and for showing how Scouts helps young people gain skills for life and achieve their goals.
