Cambodia 2025

Date: 24th Apr 2025 Author: Phoebe McDowell

This August, 15 people from across Northern Ireland are heading to Cambodia to take part in a global volunteering project in partnership with Habitat for Humanity Ireland.

Their mission?
To build homes for vulnerable families, support local communities, and take real action to make the world a better place, all while building Skills for Life.

Led by David Scott, alongside leaders from across NI, this project gives young people the chance to represent Scouting on an international stage, explore new cultures, and grow through hands-on service and teamwork.

Network

This project embodies the core values of Scout Network – adventure, community, and international engagement. It provides young people with the opportunity to challenge themselves, contribute to meaningful causes, and develop as active, responsible citizens on a global scale!

Six of the team are also working towards their Scouts of the World Award (SOWA) – a top award in Scouting that challenges participants to complete 80 hours of service focusing on peace, environment, and sustainability. Their projects will tackle real-world issues and contribute towards the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, aiming to create a lasting impact on communities both locally and globally.

Cambodia 2025 in Action

Throughout the trip, the team will work alongside Habitat for Humanity to build safe, sustainable homes in partnership with local families. It’s more than just a volunteering experience – it’s a chance for Scouts to make connections, grow in confidence, and discover what it means to be part of a global movement.

How You Can Help

The team is currently fundraising to help cover project and travel costs, ensuring that every participant has the support they need to take part.
