From Switzerland to Castlerock

This summer, young people from across Northern Ireland swapped the everyday for unforgettable adventures.

From exploring the Swiss Alps to surfing on the North Coast, Scouts and Explorers have been building confidence, developing new skills and making memories that will last a lifetime.

Adventures that crossed borders

For young people from 109th Belfast and 1st Monkstown, summer meant heading to Kandersteg International Scout Centre (KISC) in Switzerland, one of the most iconic destinations in world Scouting.

Known as a “Permanent Mini Jamboree”, Kandersteg brings together Scouts from around the world, creating opportunities to make international friendships, discover different cultures and experience adventure in a truly unique setting.

For the groups from Northern Ireland, the trip was packed with new experiences and opportunities to connect with fellow Scouts from across the globe. It was a chance to step outside their comfort zones, explore somewhere new and discover just how big the worldwide Scouting family really is!

Discovering adventure closer to home

Meanwhile, Hydra Explorer Scouts were proving that you don’t need to travel far to find adventure. Using Castlerock Scout Hall as their base, they spent four action-packed nights exploring the North Coast.

Their programme included surf lessons in Portrush, a trip to Rathlin Island with a 10-mile hike, karting, laser tag, bowling and plenty of time on local beaches. Explorers also enjoyed a build-your-own pizza night and celebrated achievements with a badge presentation at Mussenden Temple.

A place to belong

Whether travelling across Europe or exploring Northern Ireland’s coastline, these experiences reflect what Scouts is all about.

Every adventure helps young people grow in confidence, make new friends and develop skills they’ll carry with them for life. Most importantly, they create opportunities for young people to feel part of something bigger, finding their place to belong through shared experiences and adventure.

As summer continues, it’s fantastic to see Scout Groups across Northern Ireland embracing new challenges, supporting one another and creating memories they’ll be talking about for years to come.
