Date: 9th Jan 2026 Author: Phoebe McDowell

We’re proud to share that Marjorie Guiler, Squirrel Team Lead at 62nd Belfast, has been recognised in the King’s New Year Honours List with a British Empire Medal (BEM) for services to children and young people.

With almost 40 years of dedication to Scouting, Marjorie has made a lasting difference to countless young people, families and volunteers. Her calm, encouraging approach and infectious passion for Scouting have helped create welcoming spaces where young people can belong, try new things and build skills for life.

Marjorie’s impact reaches far beyond her own Group. Through her generosity, commitment and belief in young people, she continues to strengthen communities and inspire others to play their part.

Stephen Bell, Chief Volunteer for Scouts NI, said:

This is a fantastic and very well-deserved honour for Marjorie. Her commitment to young people and volunteers over so many years truly reflects the best of Scouting. In particular, her leadership within the Squirrel Section and helping to guide the successful merger between the NI Squirrels Association and The Scout Association has been invaluable. I want to congratulate Marjorie and thank her for the incredible difference she has made to our movement.

Please join me in congratulating Marjorie on this much-deserved recognition and in thanking her contribution and service to Scouting and to young people.
