Cambodia 2025 – Team Update

Date: 7th Aug 2025 Author: Phoebe McDowell

A Journey of Impact Begins

The Cambodia 2025 team from Scouts NI has officially touched down in Phnom Penh – and they’re already making a real difference.

As part of our partnership with Habitat for Humanity Ireland, the team is supporting the construction of a new home for a local family – working directly alongside the community to help build a safer, stronger future.

First Days on Site

With the sun shining and hard hats on, the team jumped straight into action.

They met the family they’ll be building with, Mrs Tour, Mr Sim, and their two young children – and got their first look at the site. Tasks were quickly divided, with team members mixing cement, sawing wood, laying bricks, sanding floorboards, and helping shape what will soon become a secure, permanent home!

It’s been hard work under the Cambodian sun, but the team has shown energy, determination and teamwork at every step – bringing our values to life in a hands-on, practical way.

More than just Building

By day two, progress was already clear: bathroom walls nearly completed, flooring underway, and the house beginning to take shape.

But this experience is also about people, not just construction. The Cambodia 2025 team has spent time connecting with the local community, playing games, singing songs and blowing bubbles with the children nearby… these small moments have made a big impact.

“Every bit of effort brings us closer to handing over this house. But it’s the smiles, the laughs, the moments spent with the children – that’s what really stays with you.” – David Scott, Cambodia 2025 Team Leader

Follow their journey

The Cambodia 2025 team will continue working on-site over the next few days – and we’ll be sharing their journey again soon.

Follow along to see how the team brings this build to life, and how Scouting continues to make a difference both at home and around the world.

We’re proud of everything they’re doing.

Happy Birthday Ian Stewart!
