Beavers 60th Birthday Fun in the Sun @ Crawfordsburn

Date: 23rd May 2025 Author: Paul Meikle
An exciting  day of activities to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Beaver Scouts in Northern Ireland at Crawfordsburn Activity Centre in beautifully sunny weather. We had 492 Beavers and 180 leaders/helpers in attendance (672 in total). The Beavers moved around 5 Zones:
Motion – grass sledging, challenge course, inflatable assault course and Beaver Trail,
Skills – crate-stacking, bouldering, soft tomahawk and a kick and stick activity,
Backwoods – cooking hotdogs and wild garlic bread on an open fire,
Craft – making anniversary keyrings, decorating birthday cookies, face painting and balloon modelling,
Fun – African drums and obstacle course.
At lunch  Sean Conway spoke excellently about adventure; cut the anniversary cake with Beavers Harry McFadden and Emer Moore (115th Belfast); presented a gift to Beaver Emma Stevenson (1st Comber) who won the anniversary badge competition; and presented 66 top Chief Scout’s Bronze Awards to Beavers from 15 Colonies.
