The Crawfordsburn Big Sleep Out

Date: 23rd Jun 2022 Author: Michael Croft

We are running a ‘Big Sleep Out’ in conjunction with the Simon Community NI (one of Scouting’s partners) and we would love you to work it into your Troop/Unit programme for the year! See below for details.

Venue: Crawfordsburn Scout Centre
When: 19:30 Saturday 19 November 2022 – 10:00 Sunday 20 November 2022
Cost: £5 per head (which must be paid before the event), which will be donated to the Simon Community NI.
Who: This event is for Scouts & Explorers only!

We hope to get a badge for the event which will be given to all those who register, and this will be paid for out of the registration fee. We will also send out resources, provided by the Simon Community NI, to all Troops/Units registered so you can work these into your programme, get a few badges earned and use the Sleep Out as the finale to your badge work. There will be a campfire and a presentation of the funds raised to the Simon Community NI on the Saturday night. If your Troop/Unit is going to be doing some additional fundraising please let us know and we will get a time set for you to present your donation too.

The event will take place in ‘The Lid’ but if you prefer your Troop/Unit can sleep together in another location on the site, but they must not use a tent, hammock or similar to sleep in, they may all sleep together under one tarpaulin or sleep under the stars. Your young people will need to bring:
sleeping bag
camping mat
plastic bivvy bag

The UK Contingent Unit 2 “The Wee Buns” will be onsite cooking some food in the evening and morning to raise some funds for their trip to the World Scout Jamboree (this money will not be for the Simon Community NI), this must be pre-ordered and paid for before the event. The link to do this will be sent out after final registration, which will close 2 weeks before the event. As this is an expression of interest (see link below for the reply form), it is manly for us to gather rough numbers and have a database of who is interested so we can contact you directly closer to the time to get more accurate numbers and supply you with more information, so please could you submit it as soon as you can.

Why not expand the fun for your Troop/Unit and come early on Saturday or stay later on Sunday and book one of the many activities that are on-site at Crawfordsburn, a full list of the activities is below and booking can be done by emailing Matthew at Note the money paid for the on-site activities will not be for the Simon Community NI. Please make sure that you book early to avoid disappointment.

Put your phone down and what are you left with? Just teamwork, courage and the skills to succeed.’
