Cladagh Glen Scout Centre

Cladagh Glen Scout Centre

Situated along a wooded glen, Cladagh Glen Scout Centre is named after the Cladagh river formed in the depths of the Marble Arch Caves.

The site is situated along a wooded glen with a camping area adjacent to the river. Toilet and shower facilities (including those for the disabled) are available in the main building. This building consists of four dormitories, a main hall, a fully fitted kitchen and a drying room. The site has a campfire circle and a bar-b-que area and firewood are available on site.

Hillwalking, caving, rock climbing, canoeing and water activities are available at the Gortatole Outdoor Centre  EANI, which is approximately two miles away. Approximately three miles away is the village of Florencecourt, where the nearest public transport can be found.

The Cladagh Glen takes its name from the Cladagh river formed in the depths of the Marble Arch Caves, carving its way through the limestone rock of the Marlbank and leaving a deep scar in which there are remnants of Ireland’s ancient woodland.

Most of the route follows the course of Cladagh upstream, at times no more than a bubbling brook, but after a heavy rain becomes a brown torrent plunging down the glen. An attractive walk year-round, and even more so in the winter months when the river has a good flow and rock formations are visible through leafless trees.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
