Northern Ireland Scouts are organising another expedition to Nepal.
We first went to Nepal and trekked to Everest Base Camp in September 2014 and we propose to return and do the same trip towards the end of September 2020.

The trip would entail –
Day 1-2, Travel to Nepal
Day 3-4, Explore Kathmandu, last minute shopping for gear, some sightseeing. Stay in a good hotel in Kathmandu
Day 5, Start expedition to Everest Base Camp (EBC) by flying to Lukla.
Day 6 to 13, Walk into Khumbu Valley and arrive at EBC. Climb Kala Patthar (5545m) Acclimatisation along the way.
Day 13 to 19, Walk back out via a different route crossing a high pass with some snow.
Day 20 to 22, Kathmandu sightseeing and culture. Stay in good hotel
Day 23-24, Travel home.

The walking is not difficult or technical in any way, there is a well defined path, – the main challenge is being able to walk continuously for 13 to 15 days, although the longest day is only about 5 hours walking. Overnight accommodation would be indoors in lodges along the way, 2 or 3 people to a room. All food included.

The cost is likely to be around £2,600.

We will start a payment scheme with participants needing to pay £100 a month for 25 months with a £100 deposit. The deposit will be required by 15 June 2018.

Flights to Nepal would be booked in September 2019, one year before, to get the best prices. Participants would need to have paid at least £1,200 by that point. At that point you need to absolutely confirm your intention to go. Money can be refunded at that point, before flights are booked.

Unfortunately the best time of the year for a trip to Nepal (September into October) does rule out those young people who are still at school, college or university. A trip to Nepal is possible in July or August but it is in the middle of the monsoon season, Everest Base Camp is ruled out and the weather would be fairly challenging. That’s why we go in September.

An information evening will be held in the Baden Powell Chalet at Ardnavally Scout Centre, 109 Old Milltown Road, Belfast, BT8 7SP on Tuesday 17 April 2018 at 7.30pm.

Please register for the information night at this link https://www.eventbrite.com/e/nepal-2020-information-evening-17th-april-2018-tickets-42946083893

Do please come along if you might be interested in going.
